You’ve got me ringin’ Hells Bells…

Nov 1, 2007 | weddings

Wedding bells, that is.

I’m freaking engaged. The most wonderful (and admittedly, a tad bit scary) thing that could ever happen to me in my life so far has.
And so Dear Reader, in case you are the last to know, here’s how it all went down…

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This past weekend was another track weekend. I was up at Road Atlanta with my Mom and Dad participating in another Driver’s Ed event. I was really excited because Oscar was planning on coming up on Sunday to hang out and see exactly what the track days are all about, mainly because I just love it so much. Well, little did I know, that one of the times I was out on the track, he asked my Dad for “permission,” leaving him without much to say, I assume. My Mon walks up at the very moment, asking, “Hey, what are we talking about?”

It couldn’t be avoided at that point. He told them his plan and then showed them my ring (which he had brought for that purpose).

I proceed to go about the rest of my day like any other track day. We get back to my apartment and I have a second wind, wanting to go run errands. I have my plan in my head, and I wanted to stick to it. He, on the other hand, wanted me to just sit with him for a while. “I have no food, I need to go to the grocery store,” I pushed.

“No, just stay with me for a minute.”

And then, he said, “You’re my best friend, and I’m nuts about you. I want to grow old with you and have children with you. I can’t wait for us to be a family.”

Then he sat up and I said, “now I know all I have to do is take you to a DE event every few months and you’ll be extra sweet to me” to which he replied “No. All you have to do is answer this question: Ashley Barton, will you marry me?”

I was stunned. And of course, completely surprised, ecstatic and too worked up to remember to break down and cry. And I shot up and asked him if he was kidding about 20 times and he said “I’m not kidding….will you marry me?”

I didn’t say anything for about 10 seconds, making him a little nervous: “A yes or no would be good right about now” and I said yes about 20 times while kissing him all over.

He pulled away and asked if he could put the ring on my finger
and my hand started shaking a little as he took my old ring off and carefully slid the new sparkly one on.

And then he looked me in the eye and said, “You’re my fiance now.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Fast Forward four days…

Bringing us to today. I’m already planning the guest list and location sites like a crazy person.

I won’t take no prisoners won’t spare no lives
Nobody’s puttin’ up a fight
I got my bell I’m gonna take you to hell
